You can prune off branches if they are in the way, yes. The best time to do it would be in the winter when the tree is not in a state of active growth.]]> In reply to Dennis Hammerton.

It has a tree that looks a lot like this aslaskan weeping cedar. The tree was about 10-15 feet tall. It is now around 20-25 tall. The location of the tree is now a problem. It sits near the entry to our porch. A few of the branchs need to be cut back now. Is there a recommended method of pruning? If I remove three limbs near the bottom of the tree that are interfering with our entry will the tree be harmed?

I would plant an Alaskan cedar at least 20 feet from a house. More is better, if possible. It grows large, but not in a hurry. Mine is 15 years old and is about 12 feet tall. It will take decades to reach its full size.]]> In reply to Julie Hartford.

We just purchased a weeping Alaskan cedar and it is scheduled to be planted soon. HOWEVER, we are concerned about the size of the roots. Our home is on half an acre. How close to the house is too close? and how close to water lines, etc?
Thank you so much

I suggest putting up a barrier of burlap between the road and the cedars to keep salt splash to a minimum. If you can't get burlap, landscape fabric will do. Hammer in 1 x 1 wooden stakes and then use a staple gun to attach the burlap or fabric to create a barrier.]]> In reply to Karen Mento.

I have planted a new row of them that aren’t right on top of the road but with in 10 feet. This will be there first winter. And if so how should I protect them?
