Hi Amanda. This is a great question. While I haven't tried this, my gut tells me it wouldn't work as well as you hope. Cattle panels are very stiff and will only arch and flex so much. Setting the legs closer together and shortening the panel won't change that. However, you could possibly make the arch "sharper" by creating more of a point at the top (vs a curve). That would probably be your best bet. Let us know how it works out.]]> In reply to Amanda Keltner.

Would you be able to have the posts 3.5 – 4ft apart if you trim some of the panel length off?

You could do it either way. Whatever works best for your space. Mentioned attaching the cattle panel to the outside of the t posts. Why not the inside? This way you would use the posts to keep the panel from trying to flop back out. Would be easier!

The pumpkin plants will climb the panels and pumpkins will form and grow. As they get heavy, the stems will lengthen, and eventually, the pumpkins will be sitting on the ground, perfectly formed.
